Driller Killer-Uncut

Published 1979
An artist slowly loses his mind as he and his two female friends scrape to pay the bills. The punk band downstairs increasingly agitates him, his art dealer is demanding that he complete his big canvas painting as promised, and he gets into fights with his girlfriends. When the dealer laughs at his canvas he snaps, and begins taking it out on the people responsible for his pain and random transients in the manner suggested by the title.Uncut Version.

Classic low budget horror with a twist, the use of sex to sell the thin plot line seems to work for a male audience, maybe even females. The art in the movie did seem a bit 'out there', just like the movie itself..........worth a watch.

Is anyone else having the same problems with this file?

Does the uploader know anything about this?

Many thanks. :)

Subject: Uncut
This one and are exactly the same uncut version, they just run at different speed.

However, note that in some scenes the frame is cropped very differently in the two tranfers: for example, check the scene where Dalton is on the phone at about 11:32 in this version (very very bad crop!) and 12:00 in the other one.

Subject: Directors cut maybe?
I believe this may possibly be the directors cut since the parts taken out don't line up with the censored British versions cuts. It may be slightly cut down simply to trim the fat, not because of any censorship issues, or I may be completely wrong.

Regardless this is the best looking copy on the archive. Try the 1.1GB .avi, it looks great, much better then the 96 minute FULL version which is also on the archive here

This version appears to have been cut by 5 minutes for unknown reasons. However, the version that can be found here is completely uncut:

all 96 minutes! Great film by the way. Glad you uploaded it.

Subject: Urgent Help requested
Dear uploader of this cult classic,

Writing to you with request for help in our Rooftop Cinema project.

We plan to screen this cult flick under Z-Movies Retrospective in July 2010 in the summer outdoor cinema in Tallinn, Estonia.

As we have w20m x h13m outdoor cinema screen and 15000 ANSI digital Christies projector we would need maximum quality from the screened film´s digital file. The current files most likely remain little lo-fi for our resolution capacity.

We would like to request from the uploader of this movie to Internet Archive if it would be possible to provide us with UNCOMPRESSED AVI or QUICKTIME FILE as high quality video as possible?

If you would be able to share the file, please contact me directly: aivar [at] or skype aivarlaan

Looking for any feedback as soon as possible,

Thank you very much in advance,
best rgds,

Aivar Laan

Subject: Driller Killer.........
After 25 years of waiting, i finally watched "Driller Killer". It was banned in the UK for some time for being one of the generation of "video nasties"... It was much better than i anticipated. I much prefer it to Friday the 13th series and i am surprised that there was never a sequel.... Good acting and storyline make this one of my favourite slashers. Reno is fully justified in drilling the art dealer for his unfair criticism of his painting. Shame it wasn't left to the last scene!!! Brilliant...

If someone had thought of removing the drill bit for the close-up shots, it would have appeared that the victims were actually being drilled......

Subject: Ferrara showed his stuff
After all these years, I've finally seen "Driller Killer."
This one got past me back then; and once my ex-wife walked out after ten minutes at a double feature revival, after having seen "Texas Chain Saw Massacre" for the third time.
I went with her. ( Maybe it's a good thing we didn't see the ending together, considering where our relationship was at the time. )
Well, this is no "Texas Chain Saw ..."; but it has something; and that intangible something comes from the director.
One has to say that Mr. Ferrara really knows how to get at the baser side of humanity.
Some of the acting is excellent! Most is not, but somehow appropriately so.
I especially liked the portrayal of one of the derelicts by Peter Yellin! ( at the bus stop )
The enjoyment curve begins low, slowly rises throughout, and peaks beautifully at the final cut to black!
At that moment I said "This movie is a classic of its kind."
And so it is.

Is this film in the Public Domain? Like I could make my own version of the film without asking a company?

Subject: 96 Min. Version Unlikely to be PD,
since it appears to be the most recent DVD release of The Driller Killer ("Driller Killer/The Early Short Films of Abel Ferrara"), whereas the so-called (and now outmoded) Collector's Edition-Uncut Version was released in 2001.

The badness is entertaining. The acting is hilarious. Why is this movie public domain?

Subject: Trash.
I am unaware if this movie gets better after about then minutes - the point is, if a movie can make me actually want to turn it off after a mere 10 minutes, then there just isn't a single possibility that it will be able to redeem itself.

I know it is not a valid criticism to criticize it for being no budget trash, but the fact is, it is trash and I didn't enjoy this trash.

I will continue to watch the rest, but I highly doubt it will be worth wasting my time on it.

the best punk psycho killer movie i've seen. Abel is really good at eating pizza and drilling people to death. Low budget, but lots of cool people : the junkies , the drunkyards and tony coca cola of course.

Subject: Just does't work...
I lived in Manhattan around the time this was made and enjoyed the local scenery, especially upstairs at Max's Kansas City, outside of that this film has nothing (other then nude scenes) to recommend it. Every film school cliché is piled on, from busy camera work to meaningless close ups that are meant to convey inner turmoil. Hard to believe this is the Director of ' King Of New York' . I love bad movies but this just doesn't work.
